For Valentines weekend we had decided for the first time to role with the cliché of this hyped up day and get away together. We booked a perfect little place through AirBNB and travelled a few hours from our home in the South of England to The Cotswolds.
If anyone hasn’t used AirBNB then you are missing a trick. It is the best way to find accommodation all over the world and allows you to choose everything from renting a room in someone’s house to staying on your own in a private rental property. You could pay £25 per night or £700 per night. The beauty of AirBNB is that it really does have something for everyone. We have definitely found that, by going through this booking sight, you get a much more homely accommodation even if it’s a designer abode it’s just that little bit cosier and comfier – It’s like a little travelling community where you not only leave reviews about the property and owners but they will leave reviews about you as guests!
The Cow Shed at Park Mill Farm was idyllic. Small, cosy, modern bathroom facilities and best of all (for me) was the most beautifully fitted kitchen, along with Breakfast Island and 6 hob cooker. Some people like to get away from cooking on holiday, but I just happen to be the opposite. We were delighted to find fresh bacon and eggs in our fridge from this working animal farm and also had friends visit us daily – by that I mean the chickens, ducks and two very large swans! The open plan lay out was perfect for relaxing, cooking, and most importantly for us – getting some writing done for our travel blogs.
The Cotswolds is a stunning part of England, and an extremely peaceful setting among some of the best English countryside. You’re also not too far from a few small towns where you can find some nice restaurants, bars and boutiques – even if that means dragging your boyfriend to the cinema to watch Fifty Shades of Grey. It’s safe to say it wasn’t his favourite film. Your time spent their may be slightly weather dependant, but it was great to get out cycling and running whilst we were there, and hunting for those cosy local pubs for a drink.
If you need ideas for what to do then check out the official Cotwolds website here. For us it was about spending a bit of time together away from the city, getting stuck into some writing, listening to music, making ‘Lent’ resolutions (I may have slipped up there already) and just enjoying some outdoor fun. It’s important to get away sometimes, even if you have time off work, it’s still hard stop and relax when you’re still at home, a place where there will always be a million and one things to be doing. Make the effort to escape reality even if it’s just for one day!
You’ll sleep for hours and hours without the constant drone of cars, sirens and people that you so often put up with in the city. I would also highly recommend using AirBNB from now on, but also you must check out the Cow Shed as it was extremely reasonably priced and was the perfect romantic getaway for two!
