Hotel: Praktik Garden Hotel
Date: Friday 8th May 2015
Room: Superior Double
When I turned up at The Praktik Garden Hotel I was instantly charmed by its sweet, inviting exterior. The red and white door awnings are a refreshing burst of colour on Carrer de la Diputacio. As I trundled in with my heavy suitcases I was greeted by the lovely staff on the front desk eager to help me. My room was conveniently ready for me at midday but if yours isn’t there is plenty of lockable storage for you to keep your belongings whilst you take time to explore Barcelona. It was also a blessing to receive complimentary water on arrival on such a hot day.
The room we were given was cosy but absolutely gorgeous. The white wooden shutters, often seen around the city, instantly make you feel like you are on holiday. Floor to ceiling shutters that lead straight out on to a black and white tiled balcony overlooking the hotel gardens below. A flat screen TV surrounded by some storage shelving makes the most of the smaller room. The well tiled bathroom has the option of power shower and rain shower with plenty of space, meaning you don’t feel like you’re squeezing into a tiny bathroom that you often have to endure in the big city hotel.
Once I had checked in and unpacked in to my beautiful room, I headed straight out on the metro for 2 euros 40 and within 30 minutes was walking around the popular Park Guell. I must admit that it gets busier every time I visit but that does not mean you can afford to miss it. In the same amount of time you can be at the seafront or snapping photos of La Segrada Familiar. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the location is spot on for sightseeing, restaurants and transport! The Girona Mentro stop was a 3 minute walk from the hotel and was the perfect link to the north and south of the city.
There was a real mixture of clients at this hotel. We found it all quite peaceful, as there is no restaurant (see below) it was nice and quiet and a perfect place for couples and friends to enjoy their time in the city. After arriving from Girona it was so nice to just relax in the hanging wicker chair in the little oasis garden and plan my time in Barcelona.
My favourite bit!
My favourite part was by far the decor of the hotel, a really retro but classy design that has been orchestrated throughout extremely well. Everything just seems to go so well together, from the pink flamingo next to the lift to the sophisticated design in the lounge area and the beach feel from the garden.
My worst bit!
I wouldn’t say I have a worst bit as such, but something that they don’t have is breakfast. Its a small affordable luxury hotel that don’t currently have a restaurant in house. Yet they will be more than happy to recommend a local eaterie and it really didn’t taint our stay. It was quite refreshing not to have the large, indulgent buffet first thing in the morning and it forced us to get out of the hotel early and find great local bakery’s for some incredible pastries!
Overall I really loved The Praktik Hotel as a chic and affordable place to stay in Barcelona. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing is ever too much trouble. One huge benefit was that we were able to hire a portable wifi device through reception whilst exploring the city, it was great not to have to rely on restaurant wifi and wasting money on data roaming! Anyone looking for comfort and location should check out The Praktik Garden Hotel!
