I am super excited to be attending the Al Shaqab Lockinge Race Day at Newbury race course next weekend for a fun-filled day of racing, good food and spectacular views! Not only that but it’s followed by their famous Newbury after party with live music from the Black Cat Boppers and Steve Carroll & Megan Rhodes, where everyone can party on into the night.
It’s a big day in the Flat racing season and features some of Europe’s finest thoroughbreds battling it out on a remarkable day of tense action.
“Centred around the £350,000 Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes will be an outstanding seven-race card worth a total of £750,000.”
As if the day itself isn’t enough Newbury Racecourse is over 100 years old and surrounded in history, the first recorded race in the area has been established as early as 1805, almost 90 years before the racecourse was even created. The first ever race held at the course was on 26th September 1905 with Charles Marnes winning the opening and going home with a silver trophy valued at just £25.
Next Saturday’s first race kicks off at 2:10 with the gates opening at 11am. The last thoroughbred race starts at 5.35, and it’ll be followed by a purebred Arabian horses race at 6.05.
